thought of that - it does widen the scope of an already arduous
task! I'm not decided yet but I may go with Clook.net - not the
cheapest but seem good quality.

I can say however, that you can go with a good provider with
american servers as well. Not all web hosts with servers in the US
(or Canada) are over-selling / crowded like GoDaddy&sons and
you wouldn't really notice any difference in pageload times.
I wouldn't go with an outside european servers for;
game servers
voip services
Why? They are very dependent on having low latency connections.
Even 10 ms would make a huge difference in such cases.

You can go for hosting providers in Holland and/or German too, you will not experience any performance difference.
